Athens Daily Review newspaper reports on Red Dot work day
When does a good project effort become truly
impressive? Answer – when two great organizations team up with a
wonderful family to provide them with a much needed new metal roof. On
a recent Saturday a team from Red Dot Buildings comprised of staff and
workers joined forces with the Labor of Love to install a new metal roof
on the home of Mr. and Mrs. Deuane Burkhalter.
Henderson County can take great pride in having people like
Gwen and Deuane Burkhalter living here. This family has demonstrated
the meaning of compassion as defined in the Gospels by adopting four (4)
special needs children. The Burkhalter family includes Elizabeth, 19
years old, Linda, 14 years old, A.J., 12 years old and Stefany, 6 years
old. Special needs does not begin to adequately describe the
children’s needs. Two of the children are blind, three require feeding
through tubes, yet through it all the Burkhalter’s are able to maintain
a calmness matched with ready smiles.
It was a very busy Saturday since the first team from Red Dot,
already skilled in roofing, gave up a Saturday to work on installing a
metal roof for the Burkhalter family. The work effort was supervised by
Mr. Tod Bush, Red Dot and Mr. Wade Feemster, LOL project manger,
ensuring the project met the families’ expectations. They and the team
deserve a hardy thank you for giving back to the community and
especially this family. The roofing team consisted of 11 Red Dot
employees and family members,
A second team from Red Dot built a wheelchair ramp for Ms.
Barbara Morrison, Malakoff, under the watchful eye of Mr. Gerald
McCreary, LOL project manager, ensuring that it conformed to the
American Disability guidelines. A third team of Red Dot employees
painted a families’ home in Trinidad. Henderson County is fortunate to
have such dedicated and willing people who like the three teams of
fellows from Red Dot Buildings who gave up a Saturday to help those less
fortunate within our community.
The people of Henderson County can take great pride in its
volunteers, like those who are part of Red Dot and the Labor of Love and
their willingness to give of their time to improve the quality of life
for the less fortunate families living among us.
